Just waiting now...

So Cooper went back about an hour ago. He'd been given Versed and we could hear him singing with the anesthesiologist as they rolled down the hall.

We're supposed to get an update in a couple of hours. Will pass on any information we get at that time.

Thank you, thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

We did a bit more sightseeing today and had dinner with our friends in Chinatown. We're all starting to feel the stress of the coming days. Cooper started crying out of the blue today and said he didn't want to leave the hotel room for the hospital and Grace is starting to talk about having to go back to AZ without me.

We stopped for jello and the nice guy at Whole Foods strained a cup of chicken broth for me from the chicken noodle soup. Cooper can't have anything but clear liquids in the morning and nothing at all after 10:30.

Lisa is coming to get the girls about noon tomorrow and they will stay with her for the day. She's planning some fun things for them.

Tonight everyone is curled up in the bed watching animal planet. Enjoying the moment...

Today we went to Fisherman's Wharf and wandered around. It was cold, windy, sunny, cloudless. A perfect day.

Mr. S. made an appearance when we visited the Sea lions on Pier 39. This guy was our favorite.

And we wondered if we took this poor pigeon to the hospital with us on Monday whether they would make him some prosthetic feet?

Pre-op testing and surgery schedule

Everything went great this morning and all the pre-op testing is done. We are actually 2nd case on Monday and don't have to be to the hospital until 12:30 pm.

Back at the room now ready for a nap!

Taryn Shappell, who we knew from Mountain Park days is a social worker at Packard and she came by to say hi this morning.

Cooper said he had a great time at the hospital today, but he is excited and a little scared to go back on Monday because "they are going to open my heart, but they are nice."

Fun in San Francisco!

We made it with only a small luggage mishap. Someone turned off the conveyor belt before all the luggage was up on the carousel and several of us were told our bags were left in Phoenix.

We got all the way to my friend Lisa's house before they found the lost luggage and we had to go back to the airport.

Speaking of Lisa...she's my best college roommate and friend and lives with her hubby and kids in Dublin, CA. She picked us up and we spent a lovely afternoon and evening at her house. Cooper had two boys to play with for a change while Lisa and I howled over pictures of big hair, old boyfriends, and 80's clothes.

Lisa is watching Emily and Grace on Monday while Cooper is having surgery. They will have a great time with her two wonderful boys Daniel and David.

Tomorrow morning we see the doctor for tests and a tour of the hospital. I'll find out exactly what time we're scheduled for surgery.

Thanks for your overwhelming love and support.

We have an early day tomorrow and Coop is snuggled up in bed in the hotel room watching cartoons. Good night!

Hi again! What? So it's been a few years. What can I say? Not so good at the blog updates I guess.
This is Cooper playing air guitar. He's 5 now and is having open heart surgery next week.

This is his surgeon whom we have yet to meet. But we've been told he's THE pediatric tricuspid guy, so next week Thursday Cooper and I are on a plane to San Francisco's

We will meet Dr. Frank Hanley and do pre-op lab work, ECHO, EKG, etc. on Friday.

Friday afternoon Doug and the girls will fly in and we will spend Saturday and Sunday hanging out in San Fran.

Monday 4/16 is surgery day...tricuspid valve repair.

A few weeks ago Cooper had a heart cath at Phoenix Children's Hospital where an ablation of the AV (atrioventricular) node was done to treat his SVT (supraventricular tachycardia) specifically AVNRT (AV nodal reentrant tachycardia). I had to look all that up...I just like saying it.

Electrical is fixed now...next week plumbing!

Will keep you posted.

Love from Cooper and the gang.
