We made it!

We had several close calls at the airport in LAX and Guangzhou and about half our luggage had to hitch a ride on the next flight to Nanjing, but we finally all made it to the hotel about 1 on Sunday afternoon. Todd and Tari and I were having so much fun at the airport in LA that we almost missed our flight. Then in Nanjing they actually held the flight for us a few minutes because we messed up there, too. J

We are in a beautiful hotel in a very cool part of Nanjing that our guide said is “real China”. We walked around for several hours this afternoon and the theme for dinner was food on a stick – some kind of deep-fat-fried rolled pastry (or it could have been chicken skin. We never quite figured it out) with this fabulous savory sauce on it that we ate out of a cup with a toothpick. Second course was mystery meat on a stick, then a strawberry kabob for dessert. Mmmmm, delicious!

We’re meeting in the lobby at 8:30 Monday morning to drive to the Civil Affairs Building where I will finally meet Cooper.

Here are some pictures from the day.
